Where do I start? The 2019 indoor archery season has been nothing short of amazing. Starting in the early fall of 2018, I was getting back into the swing of things and finding my new routine for my final full year of school at Michigan State (it’s crazy to think that I am almost done) and shooting as much as I could to secure my spot in the bow hunter division for the 2019 MSU Archery Team.

In November, I was able to make my dreams come true by finally purchasing my dream target bow. A silver Hoyt Prevail with blue accents. (it's so pretty)

My new Hoyt Prevail target setup

Ever since laying eyes on this bow I have been totally in love with everything about it. This was a huge change for me this season but I am so happy with the choice I made to change my target set up.

USA Archery Indoor Nationals

Mason, MI

February 1-3, 2019

Fast forwarding to after Christmas break and returning to MSU for Spring Semester ... it was all hands on deck for planing the 2019 (50th Anniversary) USA Archery Indoor Nationals (Mason, MI) that we host as the MSU Archery Team. Everything from gift bags to tear down on the last day of the tournament the team plans. It is a long weekend of making sure that everything goes off with out a hitch, but it is always fun.

For me, the 2019 USA Archery Indoor Nationals was one of the best tournaments that I have ever shot at. Going into the tournament I felt like I was ready after many hours of practicing. Before the tournament I was able to talk with my coach who gave me great advise about taking it one arrow at a time and to really think about my shots. One of the things as an archer that I really struggle with is shooting fast and punching my thumb button ( I still need lots of practice to correct this bad habit). This advice really stuck with me for the weekend. The first day of shooting I shot a 278 and a 287 breaking my personal record. The second day I shot both games scoring a 276, which is super consistent shooting which led me to landing the "W" and placed 1st at the Mason, MI location. Across the nation I ranked 8th out of 51 female bow hunter competitors. My goal was to be in the top 15 in the nation when all venues were done with their competitions, well I blew that goal out of the water by placing in top 10 in the nation. Ahhh so exciting!!! This standing gives me an opportunity to earn the 2019 All American Award at National Collegiate Outdoor Championships. (Stay tuned for another post about All American Awards!)

As a team we enjoy spending time together talking about archery and just hanging out relaxing. So we often have team dinners and after tournament get together to do just that. I was so excited that I was able to host this get together along with my parents. It was super low key just snacks and drinks and a good time to meet each others families and enjoy getting to spend time with one another. Over all it was a great weekend and I can't wait for the 2020 USA Indoor Nationals.

NFAA Indoor Nationals

Cincinnati, Ohio

March 15-17,2019

Right after USA Indoor Nationals It was time to jump ship to shooting the National Field Archery Association (NFAA) Five Spot Blue and White Target Face. This target is scored with the x- ring being worth 5 points and is used for tie breakers the white ring is also scored as five points and both blue rings are each score as 4 points. There are 12 ends per game... 25 points per end... for a total of 300 points possible.

I love to travel so this is one of my favorite tournaments of the year. Held at the Duke Energy Center in the Beautiful downtown Cincinnati, OH, it is always a great time to be in the big city especially with a few of your best friends shooting archery. This year we stayed at the Millennium Hotel on the 27th floor with a beautiful view if the city and ate at some of the most delicious restaurants that I think Cincinnati has to offer.

We arrived in Cincinnati on Friday night just in time for the Pro/Am. The Pro/ Am is small fun tournament where a professional shooter shoot with three to four amateur shooter for a chance to win an amount of money. This is a super fun way to meet people from around the world. My pro for the 2018 shoot was Sergio Pagni, since shooting with him he has won the 2019 Vegas shoot and won the 2019 Pro/am. After the Pro/ Am, my self along with a few friends went to a fabulous Spanish / latin restaurant named Mita's. If you ever get the chance to go there I definitely suggest the BOCADILLOS DE HAMBURGUESA ! So so so Yummy!

Saturday was the first day of scoring. 12 ends. 60 arrows. a total of 300 points possible. at 7 am. Oh my!

Going into the day I was feeling ready to shoot and my mental game was strong to just think through each shot, not rush, and just to shoot my process. I end the day shooting a 287 with 22 x's ... I was so excited and ready to shoot the next day. Saturday afternoon was filled with SHOPPING! I visited the Hoyt booth, the T.R.U Ball / Axcel Booth, as well as many others... I think I came home with a new wardrobe of archery clothes:) Ha! Saturday night we enjoyed a wonderful team dinner with family and friends at a great pizza place called MidiCi Italian Kitchen. The wood fired pizza definitely hit the spot after a long day of shooting archery and the conversation is always wonderful.

Sunday was a repeat of Saturday, another 12 ends. 60 arrows. a total of 300 points possible. at 7 am. Oh my! I struggled on Sunday a little bit with my mental game for sure but it did not totally stop me from shooting a consistent score of 286 with 17 x's. For the weekend total I shot a 573/ 600.

Another awesome tournament in the books for sure... I can't wait for next year! Look out Louisville I am coming for ya!
